History
The shipping company was founded by Captain Joachim Johannsen and his son Eduard in Lübeck in 1896. The enterprise was active as lighter with own steam barges, with which the sailers in fairways were unloaded and towed to various unloading points in port. Simultaneously, sailers were towed to the Trave and jockeyed to the quay in the Lübeck ports.
The shipping company has endured two world wars and many other difficult times as small private enterprise. Last but not the least, closing of both of the coal-fired power plants, as well as the smelter and the four dockyards in Lübeck compelled the shipping company to develop other supporting legs. With constant adaptation to the needs of the modern maritime shipping in ferry traffic, construction of the nautical towing service and the mooring service in Lübeck, it succeeded to hold out with modern tugboats this very day.
Moreover, since the 70s, overseas towages, platform logistics and oil transports in barges belong to the portfolio.
With a young, flexible team, creativity and little "Overhead" costs, Johannsen & Sohn offers these services in North Sea and Baltic Sea.
